FINALLY, I have real Notes mail on my iPhone. Yea Lotus! I've had the iPhone for what seems like a long time and as much as I love it I have to admit I look
enviously over the shoulders of BlackBerry users as they endlessly and effortlessly check their e-mail from EVERYWHERE.
By comparison, we Notes iPhone users feel somehow inferior with our vastly superior handsets saddled with a commoner's need to log-in.
Oh, I see. How...unfortunate.
YES, I have iNotes and its special iPhone interface and, YES, it works pretty well but still...it's not nearly native e-mail and, well, it's good but it's not great.
Now I've got great.
Lotus Traveler to the rescue. After a very easy server setup (thanks Gab!) and about two minutes of fiddling on my phone I now have full mail, calendaring and contacts just as god and Steve Jobs (or am I being redundant?) intended.
No more web interface. No more nice but not-nice-enough interface.
I've got NATIVE Notes mail, baby.
Woohoo!

Congrats! Having Traveler and the iPhone is awesome! How did we live without it?

Excellent, a satisfied customer. I'll send you the paperwork for the reference case study

Can I get your instructions for setting up the iPhone with Traveler?

Terry,
All you have to do is go to your Traveler server from the iPhone (in a browser), log in and download the app. After that you can change your settings (like, how often to poll the server for new mail) in the normal iPhone settings area.
No biggie.

Hi Scott
Thanks for the info. Just confirming--no To Do function, right?

Could you be so kind as to share which version of Lotus Traveler you installed, and upon which version of Lotus Domino Server you installed it too? Pretty please? I am very interested in deploying Lotus Traveler within our organisation, and any "heads up" information you could supply would be greatly appreciated.

I can get Traveller as part of my entitlement. We don't have any externally facing servers, we currently run BES, but a few people have asked about getting other devices. If I put a Domino server in a DMZ, and it is used solely for Traveller, no other DBs will be put on it, any idea if I am going to get another Domino server license? If we do, then I think we will just tell them to stick to their 'Berries.

Are you referring to the Client Configuration File that auto-creates the connection profile? or a real application? I only see an option for the configuration file.

Hi, I am here to answer some of the technical stuff, becuase I did the install and setup. I have to admit I (we) put this off for a long time mostly because of the difficult gyrations we have gone through installing other servers recently (Sametime, Connections, WSPortal, etc.). In retrospect, this install was stupidly easy.
I pinged Gab Davis (http://blog.turtleweb.com/) for help because (A) she does far more admin than I will ever do, (B) she is nice enough to answer my stupid questions and (C) I could not believe I did not need to do more stuff like installing the MobileMe stuff on the iPhone or something. Once she pointed me to use the browser and I got it pointed to the right page, everything just worked.
@5 - Kelly: To-Dos work, but like Scott says we do not use them sice well we have a far superior workflow and action item aggregation system called ProcessIt!.
@7 Frank - We installed the 8.5.1 BETA software on a seperate Domino 8.5.1 Beta server running on a Windows 2003 server VM. Our Mail databases are on an 8.5.0 server. The TSTraveler install is a brand new install as an additional server in the domain, but we did not have to move or configure ANYTHING else to make it work.
@8 Nick: I suspect there is a server license involved in the setup you suggest but I would have to review that with my Lotus folks.
@9 Terry: Yes it is a Client Configuration File that adds the Traveller features to the various PIM apps on the iPhone. Once there you can disable (if you want) the other sources for those PIM apps (Mail, Contacts, Calendar, To-Dos, and Journal...)

Henry,
I don't think that "ToDos" (or memos) work as there is not a native iPhone app to view/edit them in. I've been using Traveller and iPhone for a coupl of weeks and those are my only two negatives about it so if I'm work PLEASE tell.
Thanks,
Neil

@11 Neil: I guess you are correct. I did not look for an app on the iPhone but I did see that the Lotus Traveler Device Settings is setup to handle To-Dos so I thought it did. As I have said previously, we do not use To-Dos
Guess I'll have to work on the ProcessIt for iPhone app...

Anyone have a link for downloading Traveler 8.5.1? I have 8.5 but can't find 8.5.1. Thanks.

It's still in Beta, I think. Should be generally available soon.
