As much as I sometimes hate to admit it, my family and I have been sucked into American Idol along with a lot of the rest of the country.
It's good clean entertainment that all of us, from 7-year-old Cameron on up, can enjoy together.
So. Anyway.
Last night, if you are lucky enough not to have been bitten by this particular bug, you missed a somewhat amazing performance by David Cook, one of the contestants. Cook is one I didn't particularly like at the beginning of the season but week in and week out he is without question the best of a very good bunch.
Last night was more icing on his cake. Tasked with singing songs from the years in which they were born, Cook chose Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, which I never would have picked for someone who is bascially a rocker.
But his performance? Well...wow. A rather amazing twist on what was already a pretty darned good song (at least in its day). Click on the image above to see it for yourself.
Who knew you could do that with a song like that?

Rockers doing MJ covers? Heh, you should check out Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean, from last year's Carry On album

Actually, Cook was covering Cornell's cover. They specifically pointed that out.
And it was a BRILLIANT performance.

I don't know why people are ashamed of song contest shows. They are for sure always better than some "Big Brother" or "Talk Shows".
American Idol has been frenchised into european countries too, including Germnay and Finland. In Germany they had even a competing show which was in short called "SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD", while the official American Idol frenchise was called in short "DSDS" (Deutschland sucht den Superstar, which means as much as "Germany searches for the Superstar").
I personally found the "SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD" show more interesting, as they had very high quality candidates, and the selection was done just in a few rounds. The winner was a swiss girl, who can truly sing. I liked her interpretation of the song "There's only so much oil in the ground" from Power of Tower much better than their original version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgRTgww4rCA
Too bad YouTube supports only Mono music, not many people even have realized that lack.
